Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said discussions with United States officials were challenging but ultimately constructive, as he prepared to travel to Berlin for talks with key European leaders focused on the future of support for Ukraine.
Speaking after the meetings, Zelenskyy acknowledged that negotiations were not easy, reflecting differing priorities and pressures, but said they produced meaningful progress. He described the talks as frank and detailed, covering military assistance, economic aid, and long-term security guarantees as the war with Russia continues.
Zelenskyy is expected to use his meetings in Berlin to reinforce European backing at a time when Ukraine is seeking sustained military supplies and financial assistance. European leaders have emphasized the importance of unity, while also discussing how to balance domestic political concerns with ongoing support for Kyiv.
The Ukrainian leader said maintaining close coordination between Washington and European capitals remains essential, warning that any weakening of international support would benefit Moscow. He also stressed that Ukraine’s defense efforts depend on timely deliveries of weapons and continued diplomatic pressure on Russia.
In Berlin, Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with senior officials to discuss battlefield developments, reconstruction planning, and possible new defense commitments. The talks come as fighting remains intense along several fronts and Ukraine continues to push for broader international backing.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine remains open to dialogue on peace but reiterated that any negotiations must respect the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
