High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Kristijan Schmidt today suspended all budgetary funds for financing the political parties SNSD and United Srpska that are intended for all levels of government in BiH.
As he said, the funds will be suspended and redirected to a special account in the Central Bank of BiH.
"This decision supports the efforts of BiH institutions to oppose the attacks of the ruling coalition from RS on the fundamental principles and constitutional order of BiH. The leadership of United Srpska and SNSD are at the forefront of these actions. Their actions are contrary to adherence to the Dayton Agreement," he said.
He added that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of BiH are indisputable.
"Both entities and Brcko have rights guaranteed by Dayton. But these rights require respect for Dayton and democracy. The leadership of the SNSD and United Srpska are encouraging the RS institutions and their citizens to commit crimes by threatening to sanction them if they do not obey. The citizens of RS have the right to decide for themselves. Citizens are threatened with criminal prosecution if they do not behave in accordance with the pressures," he added.
As he said, fortresses are not needed in BiH, "and those who think we need them are not working on the future of this country."
"As prescribed by the criminal law, any failure to respect this decision that I have made today is subject to criminal liability. This decision comes into force immediately. When these parties show respect for Dayton, I will review this decision. Anti-Dayton action has its consequences. Respect for Dayton is not a matter of choice. This afternoon I will go to Camp Butmir where I will meet with the EUFOR commander," he said.
