Popović Filed a Complaint Against Živković for Alleged Threats, DPS President Denies Accusations

AUTHOR: M.J. GDNUS

Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Zdenka Popović (Democrats), filed a police report last night against the President of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Danijel Živković, claiming that he threatened her after the conclusion of a parliamentary session by saying: “You’ll have a huge problem,” Vijesti reports.

According to the report, which the media had access to, Popović denied Živković the right to respond after the final remarks of one MP, as such a response is not allowed under the Parliament’s Rules of Procedure.

She claims that Živković, in a raised tone, repeated several times that she would “have a huge problem,” and later said: “I don’t care about women and women’s rights.”

In the report, Popović requested that the case be forwarded to the competent court, stating that Živković’s words made her feel afraid, especially in light of, as she pointed out, earlier media reports about connections between part of the opposition and criminal groups.

She emphasized that she was not personally accusing Živković, but was pointing to the broader social context.

The DPS leader gave a statement to the police last night as a citizen, rejecting all accusations.

He claims that Popović did not allow him to use his right to reply after he had been mentioned in parliament by MP Seid Hadžić, and that he told her: “You’ll have a problem because I will always request replies and speaking time in accordance with the Rules of Procedure.”

Živković insists that he did not threaten, raise his voice, or insult women and their rights, as Popović alleges.

He stated that no one has any reason to feel threatened and that the DPS has no connections to criminal groups.

He also said he believes the report was filed “at the urging” of her party colleague Boris Bogdanović, adding that he would have “respected it more if Bogdanović had filed it himself.”
