US President Joseph Biden will meet with key European partners in Berlin today to strengthen cooperation and discuss issues related to the war in Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East.
Biden will be greeted with military honors, before German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier presents him with Germany's highest decoration, in recognition of his contribution to German-American friendship and transatlantic connectivity during his 50-year political career, reports Tanjug with reference to Reuters.
During the visit, Biden will hold a closed-door meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, focusing on security, trade and economic issues.
Cooperation between Germany and the USA
The two leaders will then join British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron for joint talks on the Ukraine crisis.
Given that this could be Biden's last visit to Europe as president, analysts highlight the importance of the trip as a sign of strong cooperation between the US and Germany, which has drastically reduced Russian gas imports and increased defense spending in line with NATO goals. .
Biden's visit comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky presented his "victory plan" to end the war with Russia.
Biden was originally supposed to travel to the US military base Ramstein in Germany, but canceled that trip due to Hurricane Milton in some parts of the US.
