The suspect in the New Orleans attack had an Islamic State flag at the time of the incident, CNN reports.
One of the sources said that several suspected explosive devices were found in an ice chest in the pickup truck used in the attack.
The FBI, which is leading the investigation, said it was treating the incident as an "act of terrorism," CNN reports.
Investigators are investigating all possible associates of the suspect, as well as the suspect's political or religious views and whether the person is affiliated with a known terrorist organization.
The truck used in the attack was rented, according to two federal sources.
Recall that at least ten people were killed and at least 30 injured when a man drove a truck into a crowd of people celebrating New Year's Eve in the popular French Quarter in New Orleans, local officials announced on Wednesday.
