President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will attend Pope Francis' funeral, the US president announced on his Truth Social network.
"Melania and I will be attending Pope Francis' funeral in Rome. We look forward to being there!" Trump wrote.
Trump signed an executive order ordering all federal and state flags to be flown at half-staff in memory of Francis, whom he called a "good man" who "loved the world," The Hill reported.
Pope Francis' funeral will be held on Saturday, April 26, at 10:00 a.m. local time, the Vatican confirmed, Reuters reports.
The funeral liturgy in St. Peter's Square in Rome will be led by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, dean of the College of Cardinals.
After the liturgy, the coffin with the pope's remains will be taken to St. Peter's Basilica, and then to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, where the pope will be buried, as he wished.
