Trump Says Planned Follow-Up Strikes on Venezuela Have Been Scrapped

Donald Trump has claimed he has canceled a previously planned second wave of military attacks on Venezuela, signaling what he described as a shift away from further escalation after recent developments.

Speaking publicly, Trump said the decision was driven by what he characterized as improving conditions and cooperation following earlier US actions. He suggested that the objectives of the initial operation had largely been achieved, making additional strikes unnecessary at this stage.

While emphasizing that offensive plans had been halted, Trump made clear that US forces in the region remain on alert. Military assets will stay in place, he said, to ensure security and protect American interests, leaving open the possibility of future action if circumstances change.

The announcement follows days of heightened tension after US involvement in Venezuela sparked international concern and sharp debate in Washington. Lawmakers from both parties have questioned the scope of the president’s authority and the long-term strategy behind the operation, while allies abroad have urged restraint.

Trump also framed the pause as an opportunity to pursue political and economic goals, pointing to discussions about stabilizing Venezuela and encouraging foreign investment as signs of a new phase. Critics, however, warned that halting attacks does not resolve underlying instability and cautioned that the situation could quickly deteriorate again.

The Venezuelan government has not formally responded to Trump’s comments, and it remains unclear whether any diplomatic engagement is underway behind the scenes.

For now, Trump’s claim marks a potential pause in military escalation, though uncertainty remains over how durable the decision will be and whether it represents a genuine shift in US policy or a temporary tactical move.
