US Supreme Court rejects Trump's request to freeze US aid to the world

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

The US Supreme Court has narrowly rejected the request of the administration of Republican President Donald Trump to freeze funds for international aid that have already been approved by the US Congress, CNN reports.

However, the court did not immediately announce when the money must be released, which allows the White House to continue its fight in lower courts to preserve the frozen status of these funds.

The funds have been frozen since Trump ordered a three-month suspension of payments shortly after his inauguration in January. It is about two billion dollars.

International aid funds are allocated by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which the Trump administration is trying to eliminate as an independent federal agency as part of its spending cuts.
