South Korean acting President Choi Sang-mok has declared seven days of mourning following a serious plane crash at the country's Muan International Airport.
He said that citizens will be able to pay their respects to the dead at 17 locations across the country.
The call for unity comes at a time when South Korea is facing a full-blown political crisis.
Just two days ago, the country's parliament voted to impeach Prime Minister and acting President Han Dak-su, weeks after President Yeon Suk-yeol was stripped of his powers for his short-lived declaration of a state of emergency.
Recall that in the plane crash at South Korea's Muan Airport, 179 people died, out of 181 on board, according to the final toll released by the fire department. A Jeju Air plane skidded off the runway, hit a wall and burst into flames as it landed.
Only two people survived, the South Jeolla Fire Department said.
The dead in the plane crash included 84 men and 85 women, while the gender of 10 others was unknown, authorities said. The youngest passenger was a three-year-old child.
