Turkish Investors Strengthen Their Presence in Montenegro’s Economy

Turkey has emerged as one of the most influential economic partners of Montenegro, with Turkish nationals now owning around 20 percent of all registered companies in the country and playing a significant role in its growing tourism sector.

Economic analysts say Turkish investors have become key drivers of Montenegro’s private sector expansion, particularly in areas such as construction, real estate, energy, and tourism. Over the past several years, Turkish-owned businesses have contributed to both job creation and increased foreign investment inflows, solidifying Turkey’s position as one of Montenegro’s largest economic allies.

According to business data, Turkish citizens now own or manage one in five companies operating within Montenegro. Their involvement in the tourism industry accounts for nearly five percent of the overall sector — a notable share in a country where tourism remains one of the main pillars of the economy.

Experts attribute this growth to strong bilateral relations between Ankara and Podgorica, visa-free travel arrangements, and a favorable investment climate that has encouraged many Turkish entrepreneurs to settle and invest in Montenegro. Many of them have established restaurants, hotels, retail outlets, and construction firms, contributing to the diversification of the local market.

Local officials have praised Turkish investors for bringing capital, expertise, and employment opportunities, while also highlighting the need for transparency and fair competition in the business environment.

As Montenegro continues to attract global interest, Turkish business influence is expected to grow even further. Analysts predict that the trend will continue, particularly if economic cooperation between the two nations deepens through trade and tourism partnerships.

For many, Turkey’s expanding footprint in Montenegro symbolizes a modern, mutually beneficial economic partnership — one that reflects both nations’ ambitions to strengthen regional ties and promote sustainable development.
