Ukrainian authorities reported fresh bombing early this morning despite a unilateral ceasefire announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin, which reportedly took effect at midnight.
Russian planes repeatedly dropped guided bombs over the northern Sumy region, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Telegram, warning of continued air activity eastward. Meanwhile, warnings and drone strikes were also reported early this morning in the Lipetsk region in western Russia, according to regional governor Igor Artamonov.

Unilateral 72-hour ceasefire
A unilateral 72-hour ceasefire declared by Moscow came into effect just after midnight, according to Russia’s state news agency TASS. Putin announced the ceasefire during Russia's annual Victory Day celebration on May 9, which marks the end of World War II in Europe.
Ukraine dismissed the move as symbolic and, along with the United States, continues to call for a ceasefire lasting at least 30 days.
"Our proposal for the cessation of attacks, for a ceasefire of at least 30 days, still stands," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video address to the nation yesterday evening.
"But the world is seeing that Russia is not giving any response - no response other than new strikes," he added.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a full Russian invasion for more than three years.
