The European Union is working on a new sanctions package to increase pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin over the war in Ukraine, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Friday as leaders from across Europe met in Tirana.
However, the EU has so far adopted 17 sanctions packages – the latest this week – and diplomats say it is becoming increasingly difficult to reach the necessary consensus among the bloc’s 27 members to adopt new measures.
