Đukanović: Within the alliance, we have both party and non-party candidates, we will come out with the name soon

The president of the country, the leader of the Democratic Party of Socialists, Milo Đukanović, pointed out that the party he leads will quickly announce the name of the candidate with whom he will appear in the presidential elections, and he is convinced that through discussions with other parties of the opposition bloc, he will soon agree whether he will appear in the elections with one or more candidates who are dedicated to the national interests of Montenegro and further affirmation of the European value system.
At the press conference he held with the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, who is on an official visit to Montenegro, Đukanović indicated that the fact that they still have not announced the name of the candidate does not mean that they are not working on defining it.
As representatives of serious politics, we try to look at all aspects, not only domestic, but also regional and wider political aspects, and after that we come up with a candidate that we believe can win the elections and at the same time a candidate who, with the change that will follow after the parliamentary elections, contribute to the consolidation of the state policy of Montenegro, the consolidation of the executive power, which is a necessary condition for Montenegro to return to the path of successful democratic and economic development and European integration - stressed Đukanović.
Whether that candidate will be a party or non-party candidate, he added, is being discussed not only within the DPS, but also within the coalition.
It is clear that after already several prominent candidates from the other side of the political scene, opposed to us, we want to enrich the offer in the presidential elections with candidates who will offer clear and convincing arguments, not only promises, based on what we have done so far, arguments in a contribution to full dedication to the national interests of Montenegro and further affirmation and achievement of the European system of values - explained Đukanović.
He also said that for them there is no more important interest of Montenegro than further progress in the implementation of the European system of values, as well as that they have both party and non-party candidates who share such values.
We are talking within the alliance, which today is considered oppositional, but which represents 40 deputies in the parliament, and I am convinced that we will reach one or more candidates who will participate in the elections. It goes without saying that in the event of a possible second round, there is no doubt that it is a party that remains attached to those values and is not inclined to compromise when it comes to civic and European Montenegro - Đukanović is categorical.
Commenting on the repeatedly repeated statement of outgoing Prime Minister Dritan Abazović that it is desirable that he no longer be the president of the country, he said that Abazović is neither the first nor the last to have such wishes. He then asked, who in Montenegro can it be so important to eliminate in the elections someone who, as he said, is the personification of preserved peace, the improvement of multi-ethnic harmony, the protection of Montenegro from bombing, renewed independence, entry into NATO and arrival in the lobby of Europe.
To whom and why? A logical answer - to the one who wants to cancel those achievements. I don't want to go into further elaboration, instead I will say it more simply - this is not the first time we are witnessing a demonstration of a provincial political opinion - pointed out Đukanović.
The goal of such performances, he added, is to "clear the field", because, as he explained, "political marginality, short-termism and transience are less visible".
He also said that he believes in full competition and said that he would like to see all those who think they have something to offer as candidates in the upcoming elections, including Abazović himself.
And then we can really see what his specific weight is on the Montenegrin political market - he said.
Speaking about former Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić's statement that the DPS will vote for the candidate of the Democratic Front in order to eliminate the president of the "Europe Now" Movement from the election race, Milojko Spajić said that it is difficult to connect everything Krivokapić said.
It is best, so to speak, to leave him in his virtual world, let him assume that everything can be agreed upon. There is no comment that a rational person, and I include myself in the group of rational people, could give as a valid answer - said Đukanović.
