BBC: Milatović received the support of the parties in close to Serbia, Russia and Orthodox Church

Long-term Montenegrin leader Milo Djukanovic experienced a strong defeat in the presidential election, he conveyed the BBC.

British national service notes that under the leadership of Djukanovic, Montenegro joined NATO, as they pointed out, a move that disturbed Russia and began the negotiating process for membership in the European Union.

As the scale of the victory of the former Minister of Jakovi Milatović's economy became clear on Sunday evening, Djukanovic admitted his defeat and wished Milatovic's success in the president's place, writes the BBC.

They emphasize that although the presidential function in Montenegro is mainly ceremonial, the success in the elections could improve the chances of the winning party in the June 11th parliamentary elections.

The BBC states that during the election campaign, Milatović promised to suppress corruption, improve living standards and strengthen the links with the European Union and neighboring Serbia.

This 37-year-old received the support of the parties in close to Serbia, Russia and Orthodox Church - concludes, among other things, in the text.
