The President of the Republic of Albania, Bajram Begaj, is paying an official visit to Montenegro.

President Begaj was welcomed at Villa Gorica with the highest state and military honors by the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.

At a press conference, Milatović announced that interstate relations are at a high level, good neighborly.

"Montenegro and Albania face a challenging path in terms of European integration. Montenegro is the most advanced in that sense, but we consider every success of our neighbors as our own. I congratulate you on the opening of the first cluster of the chapter on fundamental rights," Milatović emphasized.

As he announced, we will nominate Montenegro to host the summit of the European Political Community.

"Infrastructure projects that are important for Montenegro are the Adriatic-Ionian Highway. At the previous government session, we signed a project to build a bridge on the Bojana River, and this will be a symbol of friendship between the peoples of Albania and Montenegro," Milatović said.

It is important, he said, to complete and sign the agreement on the border between Albania and Montenegro.

Next year marks the 110th anniversary of the tragedy in the port of Medova, Milatović reminded, and he hopes that the two countries will mark that date together on January 6.

Begaj noted that the two presidents had a successful meeting today. They discussed, he said, various integrative European and regional initiatives.

"Our people and our country have a lot in common. Albania highly values excellent bilateral relations, not only as two friendly and neighboring countries, but also as two NATO member states," Begaj emphasized.

Today, he added, they agreed to encourage the two governments to implement infrastructure projects because, he noted, it is very important for us to have economic cooperation.

"It is very important for the region to establish the best possible cooperation and cooperation of tourism operators... There is excellent cooperation between Vrmoš, Plav and Gusinje, but we need to work on more such projects," says Begaj.

He says that Albania's integration into the EU is a strategic and vital issue. "I hope that we will open all chapters in 2025," emphasizes Begaj.

Begaj assesses that the Euro-Atlantic future of the region is the only certainty, because otherwise, he believes, we will have a strengthening of folk nationalism.

Kosovo, says Begaj, showed yesterday after the parliamentary elections that it can hold peaceful and regular elections.

"Kosovo should continue to work as much as possible towards regional cooperation. Albania has supported and supports such an agenda in Kosovo," adds Begaj.

Speaking about the certainty that we will be part of the EU by 2030, Milatović says that we have set an ambitious goal, which is to close all negotiation chapters by 2026, and to become a member in 2028.

"The two biggest challenges are the reform agenda, which must continuously be the focus of political action - reforms in the judiciary are the first challenge. The second challenge is good neighborly cooperation, which must always be the focus of our action, the region is a much better place in terms of cooperation than it was 15 years ago," Milatović said.

The President was also asked about the enormously high prices in the region and in Montenegro. "When you ask citizens about the problems, one of the most important ones they point out is high prices. It is precisely as a reflection of that problem that the boycott occurred.

In that sense, I tried to make a constructive proposal to the Government, highlighting about ten measures that should be put in the foreground. I think that the Government should take those proposals, that document, into account," Milatović said.
