Bilčik on the cancellation of POSP in Strasbur: A session canceled due to the adopted law is not appropriate to hold a meeting

The Chairman of the EU Parliamentary Committee and Montenegro Vladimir Bilčik confirmed the knowledge of victory, that he canceled the upcoming POSP session in Strazbur because of the adoption of the President's Law.

The meeting was canceled for the adoption of the controversial Law on Fouses and the Appendix Law on the President in the Assembly of Montenegro last night, which is directly contrary to the emergency opinion of the Venetian Commission of December 9 and the EU views - said Bilčik.

He said that the adoption of the amendments to the ruling majority of 41 deputies is a direct challenge for many years of European ambitions of Montenegro, including respect for the constitutionality and principles of the rule of law.

I spoke with the President and Kopedi Danijela Djurovic, and we agreed that the cancellation of the meeting in the interest of preserving the good relationships between the European Parliament and the Assembly of Montenegro and the Protection of European Perspectives of Montenegro. This was not my preferred option, but because of the current political context, it is not appropriate to hold a joint meeting in Strašta 14-15. December, ”Bilčik said.

He also said that the Assembly Speaker Danijela Djurovic agreed to "open the channels of communication on the possibility of a future meeting of SAPC EU and Montenegro."
