Yesterday's debate in the Parliament of Montenegro regarding the dismissal of the current Speaker of the Parliament showed that support for Andrija Mandić has drastically decreased and that the parliamentary majority as a whole is going through a serious crisis of legitimacy, the DPS believes.
"As a reminder, Andrija Mandić was elected to the position of Speaker of the Parliament with the support of 49 MPs, while only 41 MPs voted for his continued stay in that position yesterday. When we add to this the fact that even minority parties did not vote for him, and which together with him participate in the work of the current Government, it is clear and completely exposed that functions and privileges are the only thing holding together the majority that is actively collapsing institutions and hindering the democratic development of the country," they stated in a statement.
However, what marked yesterday was, as they state, the scandalous decision of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office, which, on the apparent order of Andrija Mandić, changed its own qualification of the act from a few months ago and, instead of attempted double aggravated murder, characterized the entire event as a criminal offense of causing general danger and causing serious bodily harm.
"This most clearly confirms the previously stated position of the Democratic Party of Socialists that the State Prosecutor's Office is an instrument in the hands of the parliamentary majority tasked with arresting political dissenters and protecting the actors of the current government," DPS point out.
However, as they say, what everyone should take into account is that there is no escaping responsibility, and that the time will come to hold accountable all the misdeeds that are happening at this time.
"And which of our parties, regardless of the current situation, will continue to properly prosecute before the competent authorities, waiting for another time when serving the law, and not this or that government, will be the only guideline for judicial officials," the DPS said.
