The Municipal Committee of the Democratic Party of Socialists in Nikšić has filed criminal charges against Marko Kovačević, President of the Municipality of Nikšić, due to, as they state, reasonable suspicion that he committed a criminal offense – Abuse of official position under Article 416 of the Criminal Code of Montenegro.
"Namely, the Mayor of the Municipality of Nikšić signed, on 19. 03. 2025., an agreement with representatives of the BIG Fashion company, on the purchase and sale of construction land with an area of 42,201 square meters for the construction of a business facility. The agreement was signed based on the Public Invitation and the Decision on the announcement of an advertisement for the collection of bids for the sale of construction land, but without a previously adopted Decision of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly on the sale of construction land.
For the umpteenth time, Marko Kovačević violates the laws, the Constitution and abuses his official position, and then he is invited and hides behind parliamentary immunity. But no matter how persistent he is in committing criminal offenses, we will be as persistent in revealing them.
In conclusion, we call on the prosecution to take the necessary actions as soon as possible, and in order to protect the best interests of the Municipality of Nikšić, to determine the responsibility of the person who is selling off state land without the consent of the Municipal Assembly, which is exclusively within its jurisdiction," states the Municipal Board of DPS Nikšić.
