The opposition is ready, together with the citizens of the state of Montenegro, to defend the Constitution and the laws, and that means by all means, if necessary, to defend the state, said the vice-president of the Democratic Party of Socialists and MP in the Parliament of Montenegro, dr. Jevto Erakovic.
If the intention of the ruling majority is to change the Law on Citizenship, the message is clear that they cannot do that, he says.
"First of all, we have to be careful. Not in the sense of our willingness to defend this country and its assets, but above all we must be careful, specifically in this case. According to my knowledge and on the basis of the knowledge I received, I think that in this case, however, we are talking about some technical changes, which refer to refugees, that is, that term will no longer be in use, and will acquire specific characters, which are in accordance with the laws of the European Union, and their rights, in which way they could possibly exercise some rights within the Law on Citizenship", said Eraković.
It must not be forgotten, he reminds, that the leader of the parliamentary majority, Andrija Mandić, publicly announced that the amendment of the Law on Citizenship is the intention of that parliamentary majority.
"We will not allow anyone to backdoor, after the failed ethnic engineering and the results of the census that have arrived, now try to use political engineering to reach their goal, that is, by amending the Law, by amending the Constitution, to illegally and unconstitutionally define some legal norms, which Montenegro does not recognize", said Erakovic.
According to him, communication with international partners is regular. DPS management had a meeting yesterday with the ambassadors of Quinta (the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and the USA), and the good communication they have with the members of the European Parliament, who sent the initiative and concerns, is very important, Eraković adds. due to the potential amendment of the Law on Citizenship.
"You have seen the decisive position reached by the representatives of the European Union, that the change of Montenegrin citizenship would affect security, not only within the borders of Montenegro, but within the borders of the European Union. They do not want to end up in such a situation, and for unpleasant situations to happen in the heart of Europe, and I am sure that they will do everything in their power to prevent these dangerous plans of Greater Serbian nationalism, to achieve their age-old ambitions through the back door," he pointed out. Erakovic.
The intention of the speaker of the parliament, Andrija Mandić, is, he believes, to first announce some things and to hope that they will become acceptable over time. The citizens, he says, saw through this intention and Mandić received a response in the local elections in Podgorica, Kotor, Andrijevica, Gusinje, and the results of the census show that Montenegro is and will be a civil state.
“It's tight here! Here, it has been established for centuries that we respect our house. And, believe me, no one in the history of Montenegro, nor anywhere in the world, who stood up for his house, and who stood up for his hearth, never lost it! Neither will we! This is just a point-blank shot!", Erakovic concluded.
