Milatović Accuses Parliament of Continuing the Constitutional Crisis: A Clear Attack on Another Branch of Government

AUTHOR: M.J. GDNUS

The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, stated that the postponement of the session of the Constitutional Committee, at which a proposal for the election of two Constitutional Court judges was supposed to be determined, represents a continuation of the constitutional crisis.

Milatović pointed to the Parliament as being responsible and called on it to finally take action on the matter.

— For more than a year, no judge has been appointed to replace Milorad Gogić. For a year, the Parliament has done nothing about it. These people come, receive a salary... Not only have they failed to elect a judge to replace Gogić, but they have also unconstitutionally dismissed another one — Milatović told reporters after the conference "The Power of Decision-Making Without Gender Balance," organized by the Civic Alliance.

He believes that this represents a clear attack by the Parliament on another branch of government.

— We have opinions on this — positions from the Venice Commission and the European Commission, but it seems we are still a lawless country. The responsibility lies with the Parliament, and I call on it to finally take its share of responsibility. Because what is happening is so irresponsible that I have no more words — Milatović said.
