It is pointless to stay in the institutions, if the Law on the President becomes part of the legal order

Staying in the institutions of Montenegro is pointless if the amendments to the Law on the President enter the legal order, said Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) deputy Andrija Nikolić.
Nikolić, at the press conference in the Parliament, said that there was an attempt to make parliament meaningless by voting for changes to the Law on the President, which, according to him, the deputies also said was anti-constitutional.
He reminded that, after the voting of those changes, the DPS demanded their removal, as well as joining the election of judges of the Constitutional Court, through an inclusive approach to political dialogue, as well as early parliamentary elections.
"The deadline has passed, because we announced that we expect a response from 41 deputies by the end of the week, and we invited citizens to protest because of the evident violation of the Constitution. How much it will become a model for our future action will depend on the readiness of the parliamentary majority to return things to the beginning, that is, to start a dialogue on all important issues in Montenegro," said Nikolić.
He said that it was a protest for the defense of the dignity of Montenegro, the protection of its state institutions and the European future.
According to Nikolić, if the amendments to the Law on the President enter the legal order, then it is completely pointless to stay in the institutions of Montenegro, because they are trying to collapse from the representation of the home of all citizens.
When asked if he would respond to the invitation of the President of the Assembly Danijela Đurović, which was scheduled for Wednesday, he said that the invitation was several weeks late.
"And essentially, he was a few months late. The representative of DPS will certainly, despite this, be at the meeting in the Assembly, but that does not mean that we will give up our previously announced positions", said Nikolić.
He stated that a political agreement does not come overnight, but that he is looking for a broader and more well-designed political action from the most responsible people in the country.
"This time, the ball is in the court of the parliamentary majority. Our further readiness for political dialogue will depend on their willingness to return to the constitutional rules," said Nikolić.
According to Nikolić, if the parliamentary majority remains of the opinion that the amendments to the Law on the President should remain part of the legal order, then any action in the institutions of the system loses its meaning.
"I did not notice that any of the political entities announced that they would withdraw their signatures in the second round of voting or vote differently than in the first round. There is every possibility that they will continue the action of demolishing the system," said Nikolić.
