Konjević wrote to prosecutor Jovanović: Listen to Abazović, let him prove that I am a 'protector of the mafia'

The President of the Social Democratic Party, Rasko Konjević, addressed the Acting Director of the VDT, Maja Jovanović, with a request that the Prosecutor's Office check the allegations and listen to the Prime Minister in technical mandate, Dritan Abazović, after his recently publicly announced accusations that Konjević is a "protector of the mafia".

"Given that on December 22, 2022, the Prime Minister declared "that I am the protector of the mafia", which would imply that I am the perpetrator of several serious crimes, I am turning to you with a request that the said statement be checked, listened to by the outgoing Prime Minister and asked the submission of evidence to him, because I believe that the performance of such a responsible state function requires the necessary seriousness in work", Konjević states in the document, which CdM had access to.

Konjević further stated that the work of state functionaries, as well as public employees in the political sphere, must be under the special attention of the competent authorities.

He recalls that with this aim, he wrote submissions on two occasions, on July 11 and August 22 this year, due to the statements of the outgoing Prime Minister Abazović, in which he accused Konjević of being a "patron of cigar smuggling" and that he wished with his activities to "cause conflicts between citizens and destabilization of the state".

"We will agree that he was dealing with very serious accusations which, if true, indicate the commission of serious crimes. To this day, I have not been informed about the actions taken, nor has the prosecution contacted me on this occasion," said Konjević.

Konjević stressed that he believes that this, the third address, will result in a more efficient action by the prosecution and the establishment of the truth, the perpetrators of criminal acts and their prosecution.

"As in the previous two times, I am available for any additional information, and take this address into account in the form of a report for the existence of suspicion for the commission of serious criminal offenses, as claimed by the outgoing Prime Minister Abazović. Regardless of the fact that I am convinced that he, as in several previous cases, is telling untruths, I still appreciate that it is important for the competent prosecutor to fully investigate his allegations", said Konjević.

The President of the SDP believes, as written in the letter, that due to the seriousness of the accusations, especially because they were sent by an important state address, there is a strong public interest in getting full information about the nature of the allegations presented.

"At the same time, I remind you that two criminal cases have been opened in the prosecutor's office, one for an attempt to bribe Abazović in the amount of 21 million, which are his public claims, as well as claims that after his direct conversation with a convict in UIKS, there is new evidence for elucidating the murder of Duško Jovanović. Please also check the state of the files in those two cases and inform the public about the final decisions of the competent prosecutors and the publicly stated claims of Abazović," Konjević wrote.
