Podgorica resident Danilo Mandić (35) has been ordered to be detained for up to 72 hours on suspicion of wounding two fellow citizens last night.

Mandić, who is the nephew and bodyguard of the Speaker of the Parliament Andrija Mandić, blocked the road for the injured parties with his vehicle at around 3:40 a.m. at the intersection of Marko Miljanova Street and Bulevar Ivana Crnojevića Street last night and fired several shots, injuring them in the legs. He then fled, only to later surrender to the police.

Today he was questioned at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office and ordered to be detained.

"The suspect D.M. was questioned on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of attempted aggravated murder and a decision was made to detain him for up to 72 hours," the Higher Prosecutor's Office told Portal ETV.

The police announced earlier today that they had solved the case of attempted murder against two people and that they had arrested the suspect.

"D.M. is suspected of blocking the path of the injured parties with his vehicle on April 19th, at the intersection of Marka Miljanova Street and Bulevar Ivana Crnojevića Street, after they had left a restaurant. After the injured parties had left their vehicle, D.M. fired several shots at them, causing injuries to the legs, after which he left the scene. By taking criminal and police-prosecutorial measures and actions, D.M. was identified in a short time, who voluntarily entered the premises of the Podgorica Security Department, after which he was deprived of his liberty on suspicion of having committed the aforementioned criminal acts," the police announced.

According to the ETV portal, Danilo Mandić is considered a person of interest to security and has been arrested several times. He was handcuffed in 2021 on the warrant after the police found a gun on him during a raid in a Podgorica bar.

In August 2020, he threatened P.K. and his friend F.F. with a gun in the Podgorica bar "Riter", who managed to take the gun from Mandić's hands and hand it over to the cafe security. After that, Mandić was on the run.

Investigators determined that the 7.65 mm "frans polis" gun was registered to a third person, the godfather of Andrija Mandić, who, as stated in a statement to the police, gave it to him several years ago.

Pobjeda previously wrote that, during the interrogation, Andrija Mandić confirmed to the police that he personally took the gun from his godfather, that he did not report it, and that he kept the gun in his house in Zagorič, and then handed the gun over to his nephew Danilo.
