Everything that is happening in connection with the agreements between Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates is "the image and image of an irresponsible, incompetent and aggressive government", said Duško Marković, leader of the Party of European Progress, former Prime Minister and senior official of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) for Newsmax Balkans.
- A state business has been compromised to such an extent in its procedure that it leads to the compromise of Montenegro and the United Arab Emirates... The first attempt to secure a credible investor in Montenegro after five years from the UAE has turned into a theater and an embarrassment. A Montenegrin embarrassment. And the problem is not that we are embarrassing ourselves, but that we are embarrassing our partners - said Marković.
He claims that Prime Minister Milojko Spajić is misleading the public with the story of a possible investment of 35 billion euros from the Emirates, and that "no normal person can believe it".
The Montenegrin public mentions billionaire Mohamed Alabar, whose company Eagle Hills would implement a megaproject on Ulcinj's Velika Plaza beach, as a possible investor. However, the SEP leader doubts that both the agreement and construction in Ulcinj will be implemented.
He calls the actions of President Jakov Milatović, who asked Brussels for an opinion on whether the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism and Real Estate Development with the UAE is in line with the EU acquis and the Stabilization and Association Agreement between Montenegro and the Union, ridiculous.
- He has shown that he is not pursuing state interests, but rather his ego and political career. It is unacceptable for the president of the state, in addition to his institutions, to seek international assistance or the position of the international community for his country, even if it is the European Union - the SEP leader emphasized.
It is inappropriate that an official can save 100,000 euros per year
The former Montenegrin Prime Minister says that he does not understand the minorities in the current executive branch, and notes that the reconstructions of the Milojko Spajić government are not "aimed at efficiency, but at the distribution of the political cake".
He admits that there are people who benefited during the rule of his former party DPS, but that this was not as pronounced as now.
- I am not saying that it was ideal. There were people who benefited from our government, as from every government, but this is inappropriate. It is inappropriate that a state official can save a hundred or so thousand euros per year. Explain to me how. And they speak of us as a paradigm of dishonesty - Marković asserted.
He believes that Montenegro cannot become a member of the European Union in 2028, as announced by Prime Minister Spajić, because the negotiation process is proceeding slowly. The emphasis on polarizing topics, Marković claims, also suits a part of the civil opposition.
- These are topics for those who want to maintain the status quo... He answers to the authorities. I'm afraid he also answers to a part of the civil opposition. They want to maintain monopolies, influence, they complain about keeping 20 parliamentary mandates - added Marković.
He also addressed the events in the region. He stated that major changes are taking place on the world stage, and that "the European Union is silent while in Bosnia and Herzegovina we have separatist behavior by one entity".
He stated that changes are taking place in Serbia and that the students who are protesting have set a goal "that will lead to the democratization of society".
