On the occasion of the recent fires that have affected almost the entire territory of Montenegro, the President of the country, Jakov Milatović, sent letters of gratitude to the presidents of the countries that provided assistance in fighting the fire, his Cabinet announced.
The letters of gratitude were sent to the President of Croatia Zoran Milanović, the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, the members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović, Željka Cvijanović and Željko Komšić, the President of Hungary Tamás Sulyok, the President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel, and the President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen and the President of the Swiss Confederation Karin Keller Sutter.
“Montenegro has been facing a major ecological and social disaster for the past ten days. From the north to the south of our country, the fire element has not given a break for days, destroying numerous areas and households in its wake. The loss of the life of our soldier, Dejan Božović, is a collective pain and wound that will remain even after the fires are extinguished.
Montenegro, although proud and strong in spirit, cannot cope alone with challenges of this magnitude. The bright spot in this dark moment is the certainty that we have friends on whom we can rely. Therefore, allow me to express my sincere gratitude for the help provided. The images of friendly forces standing shoulder to shoulder with our firefighters, soldiers and police officers give us faith in a new day, and have brought relief to all of Montenegro.
Once again, thank you for helping Montenegro breathe again, for confirming that in difficult situations we are not alone and that we can count on you,” President Milatović stated in his letter of gratitude.
