Milatović with the President of Switzerland: The opening of the embassy in Bern confirms the new dynamics of relations between the two countries

The President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović visited St. Gallen, where he met with the President of the Swiss Confederation Karin Keller-Suter.

The meeting confirmed the strong commitment of both sides to further strengthening political dialogue, deepening interstate relations and intensifying strategic cooperation between Montenegro and Switzerland, the President's Office announced.

"Special emphasis was placed on the decision of Montenegro to open its diplomatic and consular mission in Switzerland, with headquarters in Bern. This move represents a clear expression of our commitment to further strengthening political and economic cooperation. That is why the hope was expressed that Switzerland will also open a resident mission in Podgorica," the statement said.

President Milatović said, it added, that economic cooperation is recognized as one of the key pillars of relations between the two countries.

"He pointed out the fact that currently in Montenegro there are numerous companies whose founders are individuals or legal entities from Switzerland, and that over the past five years, Switzerland has ranked among the leading foreign investors in Montenegro," Milatović's office said.

In particular, it was added, the donation of Switzerland to the Fund for the Accelerated Development of Montenegro in the amount of 1.6 million dollars was highlighted, which represents a strong incentive for the implementation of reforms and strengthening the state's capacities.

"The President of Switzerland informed President Milatović that she would support Montenegro's candidacy for the chairmanship of the UN Tourism Commission for Europe for the period 2025-2027, which President Milatović recently requested in a letter he sent her on this occasion.

The interlocutors agreed that the numerous Montenegrin diaspora in Switzerland represents an important bridge between the two countries, and that their active participation in social and economic life contributes to the strengthening of bilateral relations," the statement concluded.
