Milatovic makes a platform on EU integration: signing would be a sign of political maturity

The President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović said that all parliamentary parties will send the so-called "Joint Platform for Montenegro in the EU".

It is an initiative to refer to all parties in parliament and the goal of which is the return of the European agenda into socially political focus as well as the common action on the EU path. It is an invitation to gather around the common goals, to show responsibility towards citizens and work on strengthening cohesion in our society - said Milatović at the Media Conference.

He told a press conference that the topic of integration was placed in another plan due to daily political topics and the new wave political polarization in Montenegro.

The elections were held four months ago and we are still waiting for the establishment of a funkioocnal assembly and form a new government. Given the institutional blockade, this platform I represent can be an additional step that I want to contribute to political - institutional consolidation in our country.

The signing of this platform would represent, as Milatović said, a sign of politics and willingness to dialogue and democratic understanding of politics in Montenegro.

We need to show the capacity to despite political differences, we can gather about public interest issues, about the issue of EU intregration. The interest of the international community and the support we have at important addresses is strong and is now very strong, but the specific action in the field of integration is presented in the platforms would be a positive signal - he added.

The determination and concrete action in the field of European integration, presented in this platform, would be a positive signal and in the context of the new European Commission report on Montenegro, which we expect this month. On Thursday, October, I will participate in the third summit of the European Political Community, which brings together almost 50 EU and other European leaders. At this summit, I want to transfer a message to the European and regional leaders that in Montenegro, there is a strong will to speed up the process of accession to the European Union, and that we have politically refunded this historical task - he said.

He said the proposal of the platform will be sent today to all parliamentary entities.

Upon his return from the European Political Community Summit, in order to discuss all individual issues, and I hope that the end result will be a joint signing of the platform and the beginning of joint action on its implementation - concluded Milatović.
