Milatović: A serious step backwards, RTCG requires management with as bigger, not less work experience

Author: M.J.

The latest changes of media laws, which reduce the selection of the Director of RTCG from the current 10 years of experience at only five, represent a serious step back in relation to applicable solutions and standards, the president of Montenegro Jakov Milatović.

Milatovic believes that such changes are contrary to comparative practice, but also the concept of strengthening management responsibility and professionalism.

- It is clear that these changes reduce the integrity and independence of RTCG. Public service, which has a budget of about 20 million euros and has hundreds of employees, requires management with as bigger, and not less operating experience, in order to accountably manage such significant public resources - Milatović has emphasized the X.

Instead of improving the standards, Milatović notes that reducing the selection of key positions can lead to a drop in quality and professionalism, which is, it points out, especially worrying in the context of constant pressure on media freedoms.

- It is especially problematic that these are important changes to media laws, proposed without public debate and consultations, which indicates the absence of dialogue on this important issue. Such an approach excludes the professional public from the decision-making process, violating the principles of inclusiveness and transparency - said Milatović.
