Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović spoke today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
In a telephone conversation initiated by the UAE side, President Milatović emphasized that Montenegro remains committed to improving and further developing relations with the United Arab Emirates, as an important and credible partner of our country.
"This is confirmed by the fact that President Milatović signed the Law on Ratification of the Agreement on Economic Cooperation between Montenegro and the UAE, which encourages future cooperation between the two countries in mutual interest," the statement said.
Also, President Milatović informed his interlocutor about the reasons for returning to the Parliament of Montenegro the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism and Real Estate Development between the Government of Montenegro and the Government of the UAE. Milatović specified that this is an Agreement that significantly deviates from the legal order of our country.
"In this sense, the President of the state explained that the Agreement in question is not adequately and legally defined and specified, and that it may jeopardize the state interests of Montenegro as well as our EU path and therefore cannot receive his support in this form.
President Milatović invited the Minister to visit Montenegro so that through open dialogue the two friendly parties can find a solution that will be in line with the legal order of Montenegro and the country's EU integration, but also contribute to strengthening cooperation in mutual interest.
The Minister thanked the President for the open and friendly conversation, which will be continued in the coming period," the statement said.
