Milatović with Turner: Priorities strengthening the credibility of NATO membership, accelerating EU integration and strengthening good neighborly relations

The three key foreign policy priorities to which Montenegro is strongly committed are strengthening the credibility of membership in NATO, accelerating European integration and strengthening good-neighborly relations in the region - said the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović at a meeting with the delegation of the US Congress, led by the congressman and chairman of the Standing Committee on House Intelligence Mike Turner.
The topics of the meeting were, as stated by the Cabinet of the President of Montenegro, the bilateral relations between Montenegro and the USA as well as current issues important for alliance in the NATO alliance.
As they point out, Milatović introduced Turner to Montenegro's need for further strengthening of democratic institutions and reforms in the field of justice and the fight against corruption and organized crime.
He said that the issue of European integration of Montenegro is also important in the regional context of EU enlargement and thanked the USA for its support in these challenging processes - it was stated in the announcement.
He also said that Congressman Turner is a great friend of Montenegro and that the meeting was a good opportunity to further strengthen the friendship between Montenegro and the USA.
I sent a strong message that Montenegro can become the country in which the US has the most confidence in this part of the world. We talked about the situation in Ukraine, about the Russian aggression against that country and the support that Montenegro has been providing to Ukraine since the first day of the war that is currently happening. There is also a strategic partnership between Montenegro and the USA within the framework of the NATO alliance - said Milatović.
An important segment of the conversation was opportunities for additional strengthening of economic cooperation between the USA and Montenegro, with a special emphasis on the signed memorandum of understanding between the two countries in that area.
Turner, as stated in the announcement, announced that the USA will continue to support Montenegro in its aspirations for membership in the European Union, as it did during its entry into the NATO alliance.
Montenegro has strong relations with the USA and you are an important ally, not only when we talk about the bilateral level of cooperation, but also through cooperation in NATO. We appreciate your strong support and strong voice in the NATO alliance. The US supports your plans to join the European Union. That transition is very important. Your leadership is also very important for this country. I appreciate the strong statements you made regarding the Russian aggression against Ukraine. What is happening there is shocking and our support within the framework of the NATO alliance and democratic values and principles obliges us to support Ukraine, nothing less than that - said Turner.
