Montenegrin sailors on a ship in Italy without wages, food and water, beg for help

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

Seven Montenegrin sailors have been living in inhumane conditions on the Italian ship Santa Cruz in the port of Genoa for the past month, owned by a Slovenian. Three months without wages, food supplies exhausted. What is left, says the mechanic on the ship Miodrag Petrović, is the expired term.

"We have not had a salary for three and a half months. The ship has no electricity, fuel, water. These are conditions unworthy of people," says Miodrag Petrović, a mechanic on the ship Santa Cruz.

To get out of this unenviable situation, our citizens are calling on the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Embassy in Italy for help, because, they say, they have exhausted all mechanisms to get the money they earned.

"We called the ITF of Italy... There are seven or eight of us Montenegrins, the same number of Croats and Filipinos. We all called the ITF.. The boss promises something but nothing comes of it. Everyone says Monday, Wednesday, Friday, but nothing comes of it. Please help us, urge him through the Embassy, the ITF, to get our salaries and go home," says Petrović.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs has already, they confirmed to us, contacted the Montenegrin seafarers today. When they are informed about the overall situation, they will see how they can urge and react on this issue.
