The President of the Municipality of Ulcinj, Genci Nimanbegu, has sent an open letter to Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, responding to the placement of a traffic sign that shows the city of Peć as part of the territory of Serbia, despite the fact that Montenegro recognized the independence of Kosovo in 2008.
Nimanbegu considers the actions of the Ministry of Transport officials unacceptable and dangerous, as, according to him, "it shows that there are still minds that do not recognize reality and international facts."
"We are witnessing the posting on social media of a photograph of a traffic sign indicating the direction to the city of Peć in Kosovo, but in this particular case, the facts have been distorted because the city of Peć is not marked as a city of the Republic of Kosovo but as a city of Serbia. This case, carried out by the officials of Montenegro's Ministry of Transport, represents a disgraceful act and shows that there are still minds in Montenegro who object, cannot reconcile, or are trying to alter internationally recognized facts," the letter from Nimanbegu to Spajić reads.
He reminds that Montenegro recognized the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state on October 9, 2008, and states that such actions are concerning and must be treated with seriousness and responsibility.
"We strongly condemn this disgraceful act by the Ministry of Transport and call on the Prime Minister to take immediate measures to correct the traffic sign and place it in accordance with the existing facts," Nimanbegu stated.
He also called for measures to be taken to prevent such cases from recurring by coordinating tasks within the Government so that all ministries and public services act cohesively.
"Condemnation and calls for disciplinary responsibility are the least that is expected from the Prime Minister of Montenegro in such cases," Nimanbegu concludes in his open letter to Spajić.
