Sergeant Dejan Božović from Danilovgrad was killed, and Sergeant Marko Iković suffered serious injuries while fighting a fire in the Kuče area, the Ministry of Defense announced.
"The accident occurred when the water tanker they were operating overturned and slid down a steep slope next to the road to Kupusci in Kuče.
Sergeant Božović was a member of the 1st Infantry Battalion, married and a father of four children. He had been serving in the Army since 2006, and was performing the duty of a gunner on a 120mm mortar," the statement said.
The injured Sergeant Iković, also a member of the 1st Infantry Battalion, was taken care of, they said, and transported for medical treatment.
"He has serious physical injuries, but is currently stable and conscious.
The Montenegrin Army, in cooperation with the competent authorities, is conducting an investigation to determine the causes and circumstances of the accident," the statement said.
The Ministry of Defense and the Montenegrin Army will hold a press conference at 16:30 on the death of a member of the Montenegrin Army during a firefighting operation in Kuči. Defense Minister Dragan Krapović will speak at the conference.
