The European Commission also calls for a judicial resolution of the Boris Raonić case - without delay

In the non-paper document, the European Commission dedicated a special chapter to the situation in RTCG and Boris Raonić.

The document, which Antena M had access to, states that it is necessary to appoint members of the AMU Council and resolve the case of RTCG director Boris Raonić in court.

"The effective implementation of the new Law on Audiovisual Media Services and the Law on the Public Service of RTCG is hindered by delays in transparent and merit-based appointments to the Council of the Agency for Audiovisual Media Services (AMU) and RTCG. In this regard, it is now urgent for the Parliament of Montenegro to appoint new members of the AMU Council, which would ensure its full functioning and independence. In addition, the Parliament must without delay initiate the process of electing three members of the RTCG Council," it states.

It further adds that although the process of appointing the RTCG Director General had previously been challenged through several court rulings, the RTCG Council appointed the same person for a four-year term in August 2024, raising questions about the lack of transparency and possible violation of legal procedure.

"In November 2024, the prosecutor's office filed an indictment against members of the RTCG Council for abuse of office during the appointment of the RTCG Director General. Given the importance of the public service broadcaster RTCG and its lawful functioning, it is crucial that this case is judicially resolved without delay," the European Commission's non-paper states.
