State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense Marko Marković met today with the Commander of the Maine National Guard, Brigadier General Diana Dan, who will attend the High-Level Officials Day tomorrow, as part of the "Cyber Soko 25" exercise, which is being held in Montenegro.
Marković emphasized the importance of this exercise, both for strengthening national cyber capabilities and for strengthening trust and interoperability among allied countries. He emphasized the importance of the support that the United States of America and the Maine National Guard provide to the development of information and communication systems of the Ministry of Defense of Montenegro.
As stated in the statement of the Ministry of Defense, he recalled that cooperation is also successfully developing in the field of maritime security, numerous trainings in the areas of search and rescue, HBRN, as well as trainings conducted in extreme climatic and mountain conditions, which have significantly contributed to the development of engineering and special forces capabilities.
Marković announced that members of the Armed Forces of Montenegro will participate in several joint trainings with members of the Maine National Guard, including engineering training and aero MEDEVAC training for search and rescue, as well as joint preparation for the NATO exercise "Common Challenge 2026". He said that numerous planned activities testify to the readiness of the Armed Forces of Montenegro to contribute to the successful implementation of the State Partnership Program of Montenegro and Maine, which has been running for almost two decades.
General Dan emphasized that the relations between the two armies are based on mutual trust and common values, and expressed satisfaction with the cooperation and progress of the Army of Montenegro so far. She emphasized that the Maine National Guard will continue to provide support through specialized trainings, which will help strengthen operational capacities and readiness to face modern security challenges.
Referring to the importance of the implementation of the "Cyber Soko 25" exercise in Montenegro, she assessed that Montenegro's active participation in numerous exercises and trainings confirms its commitment to the principles of collective defense and strengthening the security of the digital space within NATO.
The meeting also discussed the celebration of 20 years of successful cooperation, which will be held next year, both in Montenegro and in the State of Maine.
The Chief of Staff of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro, Colonel Mitar Klikovac, and General Dan discussed the current cooperation within the State Partnership Program with Maine, as well as plans for further improvement of joint activities in the field of training, exchange of experiences and strengthening interoperability.
Colonel Klikovac emphasized the importance of continued cooperation with the Maine National Guard for the development of the capacities of the Army of Montenegro and the strengthening of bilateral relations with the United States of America.
