The coalition of organizations Big Beach or Big Lie calls on citizens to gather in front of the Parliament of Montenegro tomorrow, Wednesday, May 29 at 11 a.m., in protest against the agreement between the Montenegrin Government and the United Arab Emirates, which entails the seizure of Montenegrin land in violation of the law, without public procedures and tenders.
“The agreement derogates from national legislation and does not provide for any liability of investors, which is contrary to the Law on Nature Protection and other relevant regulations. Also, there was no public discussion and consultation with the local community, which is a violation of the Aarhus Convention,” the coalition announced.
As they said, at a time when the future of the most valuable public asset we have is being decided, the government is trying to quickly, without public debate and in violation of legally prescribed procedures, hand over the jewels of our country such as Velika Plaza, Buljarica, Bjelasica and Sinjajevina to be exploited by investors close to regimes that have nothing to do with sustainability or the interests of the citizens of Montenegro.
“Tomorrow is a make-up exam for MPs in which they have the opportunity not to vote for betraying the country to foreign investors,” they added in the announcement.
That is why, they added, we are addressing them tomorrow and asking: “Will you eat more?”
“Enough of secret deals, full stomachs and empty promises. Enough of betraying the public interest for the sake of short-term profit and political gain,” they said.
The coalition of organizations Big Beach or Big Lie calls on all free citizens, environmental movements, unions, students, artists, journalists and everyone who cares about the public good and self-respect – to together say that: Montenegro is not for sale!
“We warn the deputies that every vote for this shameful agreement will remain recorded – not only in the transcripts, but also in the memory of this society that no longer accepts betrayal. See you tomorrow at 11 am in front of the Parliament”, they conclude in the announcement.
