Vujović: Broadcasting of the Svetosava Academy on the Parliamentary channel is an abuse of the Public Service, but also a legal violation

SOURCE: ANTENNA M
Last night, the Public Service of Montenegro broadcast a recording of the Svetosava Academy held in Bijelo Polje on the Parliamentary channel.
At this extraordinary religious event, the inauthentic anthem of Montenegro could be heard, while in the statements of church officials, Miroslav's gospel was distorted.
Messages contrary to the values of civic and European-oriented Montenegro were also sent.
The Secretary of the Media Council for Self-Regulation and Executive Director of the Association of Independent Electronic Media Ranko Vujović told Antenu M that it is clearly an abuse of the Parliamentary channel for inappropriate purposes, if we take into account its production plan.
"In that plan, there are only programs related to the Parliament of Montenegro and political debates. So there is nothing from any religious programs that are scheduled to be broadcast on that channel. By the way, the essence of that channel was precisely to make the parliament and its activities as transparent as possible for the citizens of Montenegro," explains Vujović.
For Vujović, such a move by the Public Service is also a legal violation:
"Television of Montenegro, considering that Montenegro is a multiconfessional country, has the opportunity and can report on the activities of religious organizations in other programs. But, if the Parliamentary channel is being misused for live broadcasts of entire ceremonies, I think it is also for The law is unacceptable, as in any other sense," our interlocutor said.
When asked if the editorial staff of the Television of Montenegro was wrong to publish a church gathering where state symbols were not respected, where the cultural and historical heritage of Montenegro was appropriated, the executive director of UNEM replied that such an approach was certainly wrong:
"I think it is obvious that there is a great influence of the Serbian Orthodox Church on the work of the Television of Montenegro, which is best manifested through last night's event and through all the values that were promoted at that event, which deviate from the civic concept of our country, and also negate some symbols and some basic values of Montenegrin civil society."
Vujović is of the opinion that the RTCG Council must deal with such a decision by the editorial board, which, at the same time, did not distance itself from what could be seen and heard last night in Bijelo Polje.
Vujović explains that the Public Service is independent from the executive power, so it does not expect reactions from the Ministry of Culture and Media, as well as from the Media Directorate of that department.
"And the Agency for Electronic Media, if it finds a violation of certain standards, that could be what they would deal with," adds Antena's interlocutor M.
Regarding this situation, we also addressed the director of the Media Directorate in the Ministry of Culture and Media, Neđeljko Rudović, as well as the director of the Agency for Electronic Media, Sunčica Bakić, from whom we expect a reaction.
