Šarec: Agreement with UAE led to divisions, transparency must be maintained

AUTHOR:M.J.GDNUS

It is very important that Montenegro focuses on obligations from the European agenda, said the rapporteur for Montenegro Marjan Šarec at today's session of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee.

According to him, it is not enough to adopt reforms.

-You have to implement them more effectively in practice, the judiciary must function as an independent branch of government. The fight against crime and corruption remains one of the biggest challenges in Montenegro. Local elections should be organized in a way that will ensure stability. The third thing is the media - said Šarec.

When it comes to the Law on Foreign Agents, Šarec says that we must be careful.

-I would suggest that you take into account European standards and practices. The agreement between Montenegro and the UAE led to divisions - assessed Šarec.

He emphasized that "transparency and an inclusive decision-making process must be maintained".

-Everything must be in accordance with national legislation and EU standards - said Šarec.

Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović stressed that Montenegro remains firmly on the European path, and that more than

80 percent of Montenegrin citizens support EU accession.

- That is extraordinary - he stated.

Montenegro is fully aligned with European foreign policy, we are a reliable partner, although our tourism sector has suffered due to Montenegro's accession to sanctions. Our goal is clear - we must enter the EU as a responsible member. Montenegro remains firmly on the European path - said Ivanović and added that "Montenegro faces challenges, but we are firmly committed to a European future".
