Šehović: SD made a decision to boycott the census, there is an undisguised intention to falsify the data

At today's meetings, the Presidency and the Main Committee of the Social Democrats decided to boycott the population census, which is scheduled for the period from November 1 to 15 this year - announced the president of this party, Damir Šehović.
As our request to postpone the census for a period of only a few months, which is essentially necessary to ensure credibility and establish adequate control of the entire process, was not seriously considered, let alone adopted, we had no choice but to definitely start a boycott and to invite citizens not to participate in this, we are certainly not exaggerating when we say - scams, behind which is hidden a harmful political agenda with incalculable consequences for this society - said Šehović.
It should be said quite openly, adds Šehović, that there is an absolutely undisguised intention to falsify the data.
So that after a pre-prepared result, which does not correspond to the real situation on the ground, there would be a wide open space for constitutional changes, so that Montenegro would not become a civil state, but a nationalist state! And with citizens of the first and second class - announced Šehović.
The fact that someone really has the goal of abusing the census in order to falsify and distort the data to their own liking is best confirmed by the almost incredible fact that the current government refuses to apply exactly the same control mechanisms that it itself requested in the last census held in 2011 as the then opposition, and we, as the government of that time, accepted them - points out Šehović.
The impression of the absolute justification of our arguments is complete, the SD leader further emphasizes, if we remember that the identical request for postponing the census comes not only from opposition parties, but also from civil society, national councils, and since yesterday, from the European Parliament itself.
Since the government remained silent on all these appeals, offering virtually no serious argument to explain what the problem is in controlling the process in the same way as it was done last time and the one before, it is clear that by participating in such a census gave legitimacy to the process, but also caused immeasurable, and worst of all, irreparable and permanent damage to Montenegro and its civic, multinational, multi-religious, European orientation - says Šehović.
According to Šehović, the Social Democrats will, as always until now, be on the sidelines of such a Montenegro.
That is why we call, and we will continue to do so in the coming days, to all our citizens, especially those who have embedded themselves in its foundations, not to succumb to the pressures and terrible propaganda to which they are exposed, to understand that this is not a question of parties but of the state and its values on which it rests, and that precisely because of this, during the period of the census, the doors of their homes will be closed for the enumerators - announced Šehović.
The leader of the SD further adds that wise men said a long time ago that when injustice becomes law, resistance becomes a duty.
And a clear and courageous resistance to politics that wants to return us to the nationalist mire we were in in the 90s is currently the greatest service we can do to children, that is to generations to come - concluded Šehović.
