Montenegro strongly supports Ukraine in its struggle to defend its independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty. Her fight is not only a fight for her own, but also for the freedom of the entire democratic world, it was concluded at the meeting of the President of the Social Democrats of Montenegro (SDCG) Damir Šehović and the Ambassador of Ukraine to Montenegro Oleg Gerasimenko, held at the Embassy of Ukraine on the occasion of the anniversary of the beginning of Russia's aggression against Ukraine .
From the very beginning of Russia's unprovoked, brutal aggression against Ukraine, Montenegro sided with Ukraine in its efforts to defend its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Ukrainian struggle will certainly enter the history books as a shining example of courage shown in the struggle for common freedom and civilizational values. That is why I am happy and encouraged by the fact that such an approach of hers united all democratic and free societies in a rare way in providing support to the Ukrainian people - said Šehović.
According to him, Montenegro has always known to choose the right side of history, that's why the full support of Montenegrin citizens to the Ukrainian struggle for elementary democratic values, which were ruthlessly attacked by Russia, is not surprising.
The narrative that comes from Russia towards Ukraine is similar to the one that Montenegro itself and its citizens are facing from those who traditionally have big-state pretensions towards it. However, despite the fact that we managed to defend ourselves from the malignant Russian influence on the constitutional order of our country, to which we were particularly exposed in 2016, the Russian attack on Montenegro did not disappear even after joining NATO. On the contrary. That is why, after all, today Ukraine is not only fighting for its own freedom, but also for the freedom of the entire democratic world. Good always wins over evil, it has always been like that, and it will be like that, both in Ukraine and in Montenegro,' said Šehović.
Ambassador Gerasimenko pointed out that today's visit of the SD delegation on the day of the beginning of the aggression against Ukraine represents a sincere act of support and determination to persevere together in the fight to victory.
Today, after a year of Russian aggression against Ukraine, we showed the aggressor and the whole world that we will never give up the fight for freedom. The courage shown by the Ukrainians is unprecedented, and will surely remain so until the final victory. Today, Ukraine is on the defensive not only of its freedom and values, but also on the defensive of the whole of Europe. We are grateful for the support we continuously receive, and we look forward to the continuation of our cooperation - assessed Gerasimenko.
As announced by the SD, the chairman of the Committee for International Relations and Emigrants in the SD, Miloš Đuričković, also attended the meeting between Šehović and Gerasimenko.
