Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight – Trump’s Special Ambassadors for Hollywood

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

US President-elect Donald Trump has named Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone as “special ambassadors” for Hollywood, with the aim of encouraging domestic film and TV production, as the entertainment industry increasingly opts to film in other countries.

“They will serve as my special envoys to bring Hollywood, which has lost a lot of business in the last four years, back bigger, better and stronger than ever,” Trump announced, adding: “These three very talented men will be my eyes and ears, and I will do what they suggest. It will be the Golden Age of Hollywood again,” RTS reported.

As The Hollywood Reporter writes, such a message signals that Trump wants to intervene because of the “flight of production out of the country to other locations.”

Other countries, including the UK, Canada and Australia, are ramping up their programs and strategies aimed at attracting Hollywood production.

There are no details yet on what role actors will play in boosting production in the country.

The announcement comes after California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a budget earlier this month that more than doubles the amount of tax credits that California, the “heartland” of Hollywood, provides to film and TV productions, increasing the amount of funding it provides to film and TV productions from $330 million to $750 million annually.

In recent years, the UK has emerged as a major destination for feature films, partly due to tax breaks.

Films shot there last year include Jurassic World 4 and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

Canada and Australia, meanwhile, have become hubs for visual effects and post-production, also helped by tax refunds.

States aimed to compete for Hollywood dollars by making their tax programs more attractive.
