After US Secretary of State Marco Rubio threatened this morning that the US would abandon peace talks if there is no progress soon, a different tone is coming from the top of the US administration. Vice President J.D. Vance said he is optimistic about achieving peace in Ukraine.
Vance made the statement during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni in Rome.
"As the negotiations are ongoing, I don't want to prejudge the outcome, but we feel optimistic that we can bring this very brutal war to an end," Vance told reporters, sitting next to Meloni, Index reports.
A day earlier, Donald Trump said he believed a ceasefire was "close" and that Moscow should soon submit a response to the latest US proposal. However, Rubio said this morning that the US would "move on" if there is no concrete progress.
