According to the latest forensic data, 935 people were killed in Iran during the 12-day aerial war with Israel, a spokesperson for Iran’s judiciary announced today, as reported by state media.
Among the dead are 38 children and 132 women, said spokesperson Asghar Jahangir.
The updated death toll is significantly higher than the previous figure released by Iran’s Ministry of Health, which reported 610 deaths before a ceasefire came into effect last week. Jahangir also revised the number of casualties in the Israeli airstrike on Evin Prison in Tehran from 71 to 79.
Israel launched its air campaign on June 13, targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and killing high-ranking military officials as well as civilians — the most serious assault on the Islamic Republic since the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s.
Iran retaliated with missile strikes on Israeli military targets, infrastructure, and cities. The United States entered the conflict on June 22 with airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that Israel’s “act of aggression” resulted in numerous war crimes. He said Iran would present evidence to international bodies, which, in his words, must hold Israel accountable.
“The action of the Zionist regime (Israel) was carried out without justification, and we do not distinguish between military and civilian casualties,” Baghaei told reporters at a regular press briefing.
He added, “Every martyr and every destroyed building is an example of a war crime.”
