Continuation of blockades across Serbia: Masked police in Belgrade, citizens switched to the zebra method

Citizens of Serbia today blocked roads and intersections in several cities. Students are calling for continuation of civil disobedience and blockades of key roads in Belgrade and other parts of Serbia. Police have been arresting citizens, mostly students, since early morning.

The Teaching Council of the Orthodox Theological Faculty in Belgrade today called on students to fully return to classes and to, without hesitation and responsibly, align their lives with the "organization of the holy Church."

The European Commission is closely monitoring the situation in Serbia, where cases of use of force against demonstrators, mass arrests, as well as accusations against students for allegedly organizing an attempted coup have been recorded, writes N1.

Number of arrested students published

Students of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDU) published a list of arrested students since this morning. According to the latest information, 29 students have been arrested in the last five hours.

Most of the arrested are from the Faculty of Philosophy, say FDU students.

Arrests started early this morning when the police action to break blockades began.

Intervention police officers just arrived at Dorćol, in Cara Dušana Street, to break the blockade, reports Đorđe Miketić.

Dentistry student arrested near Autokomanda

Students of the Faculty of Dentistry in Belgrade announced that one of their colleagues was arrested during a gendarmerie raid on demonstrators who peacefully blocked Autokomanda.

Student released

Student Matija Sabo Vojnić was released from the police station, and only a misdemeanor charge will be filed against him, students said.

A student of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences was summoned a few days ago for an interview at the Security Information Agency (BIA).

Students revealed how many cities and locations were blocked last night

Students in the blockade at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences in Belgrade announced via social networks that last night students who have been blocking faculties for over seven months managed, together with citizens, to block more than 50 locations in over 20 cities.

New smaller blockades in New Belgrade: Idea to "waste" police time

Citizens since this morning at some places return to blockades in Belgrade, and from 7 to 8 a.m. a blockade was organized at the intersection of Gandijeva and Jurija Gagarina.

According to an N1 reporter, citizens this morning placed containers and spread across the intersection, it lasted briefly, and residents of New Belgrade announce that blockade should start again at 10 a.m.

Teodora told N1 that they started the blockade at 8 p.m. yesterday and it was very crowded.

About blockades in Serbia

Traffic this morning is normalized from Užice towards Zlatibor and Belgrade, so people going to the Adriatic or returning from the sea do not stand in lines, and blockades near Užice and Kosjerić were removed, Radio Television Serbia (RTS) reported.

In Smederevo the main street, Karađorđeva, which was blocked since last night, is unblocked. Even today, a group of citizens stands on the sidewalk under the pavilion, and opposite the street, not far from them, is the police. Traffic is not interrupted.

According to RTS correspondents, roads in Niš and Zaječar are unblocked, while some intersections are blocked in Šabac and Čačak.

On social networks, a video appeared showing how police during a blockade rush at citizens with vans in Vojvode Stepe.

Arrests in Vojvode Stepe and near Faculty of Law

Students in blockade announced on Instagram that 16 people were arrested this morning in Vojvode Stepe in Belgrade.

A citizen who witnessed the police action on Vojvode Stepe street, Ivan Ćosić, explained to N1 what exactly happened:

"Around four o’clock police inspectors came. We did not even know who they were, because they came in unmarked vehicles. One of us went to talk to them. They introduced themselves as police inspectors. One of them came and introduced himself as the chief. He had an assistant who filmed everything and told us to leave the location... They did not want to retreat from orders. After them came the Gendarmerie and they started to push people," Ivan told N1.

Arrests near Faculty of Law

Around 7 a.m., arrests were made near the Faculty of Law in Belgrade, where students had gathered to support colleagues.
