Russia has for the first time allegedly begun using North Korean troops in significant numbers to carry out attacks on Ukrainian forces fighting to hold territory captured in Russia's Kursk region.
The British newspaper The Guardian reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this in his regular daily address last night.
"We have collected preliminary data that the Russians have begun using North Korean soldiers in their attacks. A significant number of them," Zelensky said.
He said that "North Korean soldiers are being used in combined Russian units and for now only on the Kursk front".
"We have information that indicates that their use could be expanded to other parts of the battlefield," Zelensky said.
The Guardian states that North Korean soldiers have not yet entered combat on Ukrainian soil, but that they have already suffered "significant" losses.
