One of the greatest Bosnian writers and actors, Josip Pejaković, died last night at the age of 78.
Josip Pejaković was born in Travnik in 1948, where he attended primary and secondary education. He graduated from the Drama Studio in Sarajevo in the class of Kaća Dorić and Josip Lešić. He graduated with the role of Tuzenbach in the play "Three Sisters" by Chekhov and the role of Filtos in "Concert in the Arabal Egg" directed by Kaća Dorić.
He played over 50 premiere roles at the National Theater in Sarajevo, in the films Ljudski faktor, Kuca pered puta, a dozen monodramas. Significant roles in plays: "For Whom the Bell Tolls", "The House of Mourning", "Cherry", "The Brothers Karamazov", "Three Sisters", "Woyczek", "The Funeral in Terezinenburg", "The Grand Vizier", "Hasanaginica", "Principe Gavrilo", "Omer Pasha Latas", "Julius Caesar", "Pistachio Devils", "King Lear", "The Legend of Ali Pasha", "Long Journey into the Night", "Hamlet in the village of Mrduša Donja or Hamlet knows what the people don't know", "Wild meat"...
In his fruitful artistic career, he created a large number of roles, and he was the winner of numerous awards, starting with the Sixth of April Award of the City of Sarajevo in 1974, then the Lifetime Achievement Award of ZAVNOBIH in 1991, as well as the award of the Association of Dramatic Artists of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He also wrote several monodramas and film scripts, the most important of which are: "Oj živote", "On meni nema Bosne", "Ljudski faktor", "Kuća pored puta".
From 2001 to 2003, he served as the director of the NPS Drama.
For a time, he was the singer of the Travnik rock band Veziri. He was later replaced by Seid Memić Vajta. After that, he devoted himself to acting. He played several roles in the amateur theater in Travnik, and later went to Sarajevo, where he soon became a favorite with the audience and critics.
In May 2022, he published his latest book, Sevdalinka, and together with Rambo Amadeus, he submitted a candidacy to UNESCO with a proposal for sevdalinka to become an intangible world cultural heritage.
