On Saturday, Korcula marks the 80th anniversary of the city's liberation from the fascists, and Croatian veterans' associations have announced a protest due to the concert that will be held that day at the Summer Stage.
The organizer of the event, the Association of Anti-Fascists of the City of Korčula, invited the Montenegrin amateur assembly KIC pop choir to the celebration, Index writes.
However, as this portal states, this bothered the Association of Croatian Volunteers of the Homeland War (UHDDR), which sent an open letter demanding the members of the parliament to cancel their performance.
"It is unacceptable for a choir from Montenegro to perform"
- As an association, we support the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Korčula, but as Croatian defenders, it is unacceptable for us, as Croatian defenders, that the songs you intend to perform are sung by a choir from the country from which the army comes that attacked us together with the army from Serbia in 1991. The army from which we defended Dubrovnik, Ston and the rest of the Republic of Croatia, he writes in an open letter signed by UHDDR President Čara.
In the letter to the choir, they also state that they are bothered by "symbols of the totalitarian regime of the former state in these areas, which are often in the background during your performances and which glorify Yugoslav unitarism".
They announced that they would hold a protest against the concert at the entrance to the Summer Stage and that they would sing Croatian songs.
The Montenegrin Kic pop choir was founded in 2017, and it consists of about 60 amateur singers. This assembly is made up of people of different professions and generations, and at the beginning of this year they held their 100th concert.
They perform songs by Bijelo Dugmet, Blue Orchestra, Oliver Mandić, Smak, Perper, Gibonni, Urban, and are also known for performing anti-fascist and partisan songs.
