Montenegrin Citizen Wanted by Interpol Arrested in Bosnia and Herzegovina

A Montenegrin national wanted on an international arrest warrant issued by Interpol has been detained in Bosnia and Herzegovina, authorities confirmed following a coordinated police operation. The arrest took place earlier this week after law enforcement agencies received intelligence on the suspect’s movements near the border region.

According to initial reports, the man had been on Interpol’s red notice list for several years, sought in connection with serious criminal offenses committed outside Bosnia and Herzegovina. Police units from multiple cantons collaborated in the operation, which was carried out swiftly and without resistance.

The suspect was taken into custody and transferred to a detention facility in Sarajevo, where he awaits extradition proceedings. Judicial authorities are now reviewing the request from Montenegro to determine the next steps in the extradition process, in accordance with international legal standards and bilateral agreements.

Sources close to the investigation say the arrested individual is believed to have ties to organized criminal groups operating across the Balkans. His capture is considered a significant success for regional security cooperation and a signal of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s growing commitment to cross-border law enforcement efforts.

Officials emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina remains committed to fulfilling its international obligations and will continue to work closely with Interpol and neighboring countries in tracking and apprehending fugitives wanted for serious crimes.

Further details about the suspect’s identity and the charges against him have not been disclosed, pending completion of formal extradition procedures.
