Carnival festivities in Budva begin with Abrum

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

The program of the 22nd International Budva Carnival, organized by the Tourist Organization of the Municipality of Budva, the Municipality of Budva and the NGO "Feštađuni" under the slogan "Let's spread love", began with Abrum along Petrovac, Pržno, Sveti Stefan and Rafailovići.

The Abrum or invitation to Carnival on this occasion also attracted great interest from locals and tourists who enjoyed the songs, dances and laughter spread by the carnivalists, while local caterers along the entire Budva Riviera welcomed the Feštađuni with a wide range of coastal food and drinks.

“The festival goers, carnivalists and musicians entertained visitors and locals of Budva’s settlements, and were supported by Budva’s caterers, whom I would like to thank on behalf of the Budva Municipality Tourist Organization for their great turnout. They joined in this activity as in previous years and welcomed our guests with a rich serving of both traditional specialties and refreshing drinks,” said the director of the Budva Tourist Organization, Ana Vujošević.

The cheerful performance of the festival goers was led by Marija Pjerotić, president of the NGO “Festadjuni”, founder of the Budva Carnival, who pointed out the importance of maintaining the carnival tradition in Budva.

“Carnival is an event that brought back the tradition that Budva had. Carnival has a huge impact on tourism in Montenegro, as well as on all those who visit the Budva Riviera. Budva will be full on May Day, because Carnival attracts people with positive energy. It is song, dance, relaxation. If we didn’t have the great support of the population, caterers, the Municipality of Budva, and the Budva Tourist Organization, we wouldn’t have been able to do this. Together we can do a miracle and be the best,” said Pjerotić.

Pjerotić points out that after Rijeka, Budva has the largest carnival in the region.

“The participation of 70 carnival groups has been announced, 2,500 masked people in the procession. We are working to make it better and more massive every year. There will be guests from all over the ex-Yugoslavia, Bolivia, Venice... We will have guests from eight European countries,” announced Pjerotić.

The successfully implemented Abrum along the Budva Riviera is just the prelude to everything that awaits the people of Budva and numerous visitors during the International Budva Carnival, which will last until Sunday, May 4.

Labor Day, May 1st and the following two days are scheduled for a musical program in the evening hours that will take place at several locations in the Old Town area, on the Painters' Square, the plateau below the Citadel and the Palm Square.

On Thursday, May 1st, Bodziee, P.S. will perform on the plateau below the Citadel, the star of the evening will be Egyptian DJ Raxon, and local support will be provided by DJ Burkakke.

Abrum through the Old Town will traditionally be held on Friday, May 2nd at 8 p.m., when the people of Stari Grad and their guests will join in the masked dance, while that same evening, local bands Radio Katakomba, Jack Lupino, DJ John K and the upcoming star from Serbia, Tam, will perform on the plateau below the Citadel. Carefully selected representatives of the Montenegrin pop-rock scene, the bands "Milky Wave" and "Fankulo", will perform on the live stage at Trg Palmi.

The central event of the Budva Carnival, the Great Carnival Parade, will begin on May 3 at 8 p.m., and more than 70 carnival groups will parade through Budva from the "Bracera" hotel to the square in front of the Old Town, where they will present their messages this year through a short performance. That same evening, as part of the musical part of the program, the most eminent representatives of the Belgrade club scene, representatives of the clubs "Lift" and "Karmakoma", will perform on the plateau below the Citadel. The audience can expect two B2B performances, by Aleksandra Duende and Iva Arifaj, as well as a performance by the duo consisting of Nikola Vemić and Sacha Mambo, with local support from DJ Starac. On Trg Palmi, on the live stage on May 3, Eliza Stark and the local band "Priganitze" will perform.

The program of the 22nd International Budva Carnival ends with a Small Carnival Parade on Sunday, May 4, which this year includes over 200 children from different cities in Montenegro and Serbia. From 4 p.m., costumed children will parade from the city kindergarten "Ljubica Jovanović - Maše" to the square in front of the Old Town, where they will present their acts, and to their great joy, as well as the youngest visitors present, a large masquerade ball show will follow.

Director of the Budva Tourist Board, Ana Vujošević, notes that such a rich program will also be accompanied by good attendance at the Montenegrin capital of tourism.

"There are currently around 16,000 guests staying in Budva, of which 10,300 are in hotel accommodation, and the rest in individual accommodation. When it comes to hotel accommodation, most guests are from Israel, Great Britain, France, Russia, Germany, and when it comes to individual accommodation, we record a large number of guests from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia and Turkey. In the coming days, Budva will certainly be one of the most visited coastal destinations, so we will enjoy the beautiful program and the carnival itself together," said Vujošević.
