The deadline for the introduction of the new system of electronic permits for travel to Europe - ETIAS is approaching. It will bring numerous changes for travelers from the region.
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) is a new electronic permit that will be required by all travelers from countries with a visa-free regime for the Schengen area. It is not a visa, but rather a mandatory pre-registration that is done online and takes only a few minutes. Once approved, the ETIAS permit will be valid for three years or until the expiration of the passport.
In addition to ETIAS, the European Union is also introducing Digital Schengen through the new Entry/Exit System (EES), which will modernize passport controls at airports and borders, writes Avaz.
ETIAS is an electronic permit for travel to the Schengen area, similar to the American ESTA system. Travelers from around 60 countries, including Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United States, Canada and Australia, will have to fill out an online form before traveling, pay a fee of 7 euros and wait for approval.
The permit will be valid for three years or until the expiration of the passport. ETIAS does not guarantee automatic entry into the EU, but is a prerequisite for border control. If a traveler does not have a valid ETIAS permit, he may be denied boarding or entry into the Schengen area.
Along with ETIAS, the Entry/Exit System (EES) is being introduced - a new electronic system for recording entries and exits from the Schengen area. Instead of the classic stamping of passports, traveler data will be recorded digitally. The date of entry and exit will be registered, as well as the duration of stay, which in most cases may not exceed 90 days within 180 days.
